macOS: Insert current date shortcut with `Shortcuts.app`

Shortcuts.app in macOS is a tool for automating repetitive tasks. It has a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface and supports tasks such as opening apps, copying/pasting text, and sending messages. In this article, I'll demonstrate how to create a shortcut that inserts the current date into any app, which I use to quickly add dates to my notes, emails or Slack messages.

macOS: Preview source code files in Finder with Quick Look plugins

macOS Finder offers a possibility to preview the files of any type without opening them with Quick Look . By default Quick Look supports most commonly used file formats which may not be enough if you are a developer and you want to preview source code files i.e. Java or Python or any other un-common file types.

macOS: Annotate - simple yet productive screenshots tool

After switching from Windows to macOS I was looking for a simple screenshots taking tool to support my daily workflow. The built-in tools offered by macOS are not sufficient for me, mainly because of the image annotating tools and limited keyboard shortcuts support. For couple of days I used Skitch , but then I found Annotate , a light-weight and simple app with quite good keyboard shortcuts support. In this short blog post, I share how I currently work with Annotate app. Note: Looking for a powerful screenshots taking tool for Windows? Checkout Greenshot . Why built-in tool are not sufficient? Take a screenshot, annotate it quickly with tools like arrow, shape and text, copy to clipboard and paste it anywhere (e.g. Slack, JIRA, e-mail or a document editor) Open an image from clipboard, annotate it quickly, copy to clipboard and paste it anywhere With Annotate this is all possible and it can be done pretty quickly with keyboard short...

Lombok - you should definitely give it a try

Lombok is not a new thing in a Java ecosystem, but I must admit I always underestimated its value until I tried it or I was “convienced” to try it. I did not see much value in adding a library that generates code that can be easily generated by any modern IDE these days. So I ignored the library and I have been writing or generating tons of boilerplate code. Not anymore. In 2016 I joined a Spring-based project where project Lombok was already in place. And since then I can’t work without Lombok anymore… Why?

ConEmu - Windows console emulator with tabs

After switching to Git some time ago, I started working more and more with Git Bash on Windows. Git Bash is pretty cool as it provides (apart from Git) Bash supported with basic Unix tools including curl or ssh . Git Bash in Windows has some limitation though including limited customization options and lack of good copy & paste options supported with keyboard shortcuts. Fortunately, there is ConEmu that not only fills that gap but adds various features that make working with console applications more productive and more enjoyable for me.

Get things done

As a Team Leader I work with a range of different tasks everyday. They are related to many aspects of my current company life from managing multiple teams, multiple projects, customers, improvements, reports to name a few. I work with short term tasks but also with long term ones like e.g. improvements. This makes that I have more tasks I am able to manage. It requires from me a good organization of work to get things done.
